Potatoe Forks

On my mission to become more green, I have decided to cut driving and gas vehicles out of my daily routine as much as possible. Starting small, until i get my bike fixed, i have told my boyfriend Nick to no longer drive his Honda Element over from his dads house to pick me up and drive me back over there. It is completely stupid when it is within walking distance. It is a mear 0.50 miles, and even though the Element is a low emissions car it is still burning gasoline and releasing emissions into our atmosphere. The Element, getting about 20 miles to the Gallon, isn't too gas friendly, and though 1 mile to his house and back isn't much it adds up.... just in the last 48 hours i have gone to his house and back four times, which is four miles, times that by 5, like ten more day, there is that gallon of gas right there in less than two weeks and at today's dollar is about $4.30. That is $154.80 a year if i were to go to his house twice a day every day. So not necessary. I know i can sure use the exercise and some time in the sun...or moon. Here is a short clip of Nick and I walking the other night.... enjoy.

So that is what i have been up to so far... and this is my green fact i learned today!!
They are now using potatoes and corn to make forks and spoons and even food containers, all your basic eating were, that can when finished be composted! No more ending up in landfills! I need to find out where i can get some of this stuff for my birthday party this year! Pretty Rad...

Well...Thanks for reading and remember to keep it green!!

Trying Harder This Summer

Hello. My name is Rachel Lane and I am currently 18 years young. I have been a resident of the state of Nevada since I was born. I was born in the City of Las Vegas and I have lived in North Las Vegas up until last summer when I moved up to Reno to go to school. Now I am back home in N. LV until school starts up again.
I have always been conscious of my impact on the environment and have been really into recycling and helping make our planet a safer place for all of us to live, but now that i am home for the summer sitting on my butt and watching planet green all day, I really feel that i am not doing enough.
I believe that the small things really do count, like turning off your lights when not in the room, or unplugging electronics not in use, but i feel like i need to be doing more...and i wanted to start by making this blog to keep track of how i am doing and to inform others of what they can do as well because we are all in this together.
My Plan is like i said to keep track of my progress to become more green, and help others become more green along the way. I want to also talk about things i learn, and things i find interesting.
I hope people come to read what i have to say and help me out as well. Maybe let me know what they wanna hear about... or any suggestions or stories they might have.
So that's about it for now. So please help me keep it green.
